The whole mosaic of spatial and development problems, in a special way, deepens the existing and imposes new challenges for local communities, which motivated us to, in addition to traditional topics related to the legal and institutional framework of planning and arrangement of space and settlements, as well as creating spatial and urban plans, this time we pay special attention to the issue of defining public interest in spatial and urban planning, rural development planning, as well as the impact of demographic and migration processes on the development of local communities.

In that regard, we expect that the practical experiences and conclusions that will be presented will provide a quality basis for the advancement and development of science and practice and make a significant contribution to management structures at all levels of government, especially local authorities in solving problems that they have been facing.

In parallel with the Conference, the exhibition Planners Networking 4 will be organized, where spatial and urban planning institutions from Serbia and the surrounding countries will have the opportunity to present planning documents of all levels adopted in the period from 2018 to 2022.

Positive experiences from the previous eight conferences are a good precondition for organizing another successful one.

The symposium provides an opportunity to bring together experts in spatial planning, environmental protection, state representatives and local administrative bodies as well as non-governmental sector.

The intention of the organizers of this symposium is to discuss the current situation in the field of development and implementation of planning documents in Serbia and legal environment of these documents. This symposium was inspired by changing legislation in the field of spatial planning and environmental protection, also adoption of the set of Spatial Plans for Special Purpose Areas on the territory of Serbia, which elaborate the spatial development of the territory of the Republic and are defined by the Spatial Plan of the Republic of Serbia. A significant aspect of these documents is balancing of economic and other activities in relation to the protection of natural and the environment and also achieving the overall sustainable development of Serbia.

This year a special emphasis has been put on the issues of planning and managing natural and cultural goods and renewable energy sources in spatial and urban plans. Bearing in mind importance of these topics and the wide range of scientific and professional approaches in solving this problem, this is very good opportunity to exchange scientific and professional experiences from Serbia and abroad on one place and try to improve the methodology of planning and management of natural and cultural goods. At the same time, a growing trend in using natural and cultural resources as the backbone of tourism and economic development of Serbia requires a different, more proactive approach to the planning of the area in accordance with the principles of sustainable development and protection of non-renewable resources.

In addition to the usual topics related to the legal and institutional framework for the protection of space and environmental protection, the improvement of the methodology for developing plans and studies as well as presentations of experiences in the development of planning documents, the section intended for young researchers will gather young experts, master and PhD students and publish their papers in special electronic issue. Through the presentations of the current practices in this part of Europe it is expected that active participation of local authors and the exchange of knowledge that can improve the methodology and concept of planning, utilization of natural and cultural values, as well as the assessment of new technologies that can contribute to this process.

A positive experience with the previous nine conferences, more than 500 presentations and published papers, with over 5000 pages of text in nine conference proceedings, represent a solid basis for organizing another successful event.

Call for Papers – MICaRD – April 2018

This symposium aims to foreground migrant perspectives and experiences, and situate these within contemporary debates on migration and the socio-political context of Brexit Britain as well as the broader debates on migration across Europe.

Current political, media and scholarly debates on migration overwhelmingly revolve around the quantifiable economic contribution of migrant workers and less around migrant subjectivities, working lives, wellbeing and contribution to local communities.

Through this symposium, we seek to give greater visibility to migrant experiences. Beyond dominant neoliberal discourses, migrants’ contributions go past the economic into the social and local community spheres, aspects that are important for community cohesion but often under-valued in mainstream debates. Migrant lives and identities are shaped and affected – enabled as well as constrained – by spatial contexts and social relationships as well as place-based socio-economic and political structures.

We invite theoretical, empirical and methodological contributions that stretch the focus beyond the economic contribution of migrants, and explore how migrants strive to become embedded in the local environment and play an active role in their workplaces and communities.

Submission of Abstracts:

• 300 word abstracts words should be submitted via email in Word format to: arydzik@lincoln.ac.uk no later than 15^th January 2018
• We invite conventional papers as well as contributions in visual formats (e.g. film, photography, art exhibitions). We also welcome proposals for workshops

In the year when we celebrate a century and a half from birth and up to date unrivaled Serbian and world geographical scientist, thinker and researcher academician Jovan Cvijić, geographers from Serbia and Europe will gather at the 4^th Serbian Congress of Geographers.

Modern scientific challenges which make up geography actual, include a variety of methodological issues, fundamental and more applied subjects in research, in all geographic disciplines. Geography has retained its identity, but is constantly evolving and contributing to interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary in integrated research of space.

Wish of the organizers of the Congress is to bring together geographers and related researchers who will present the results of modern geographical research and point to approaches that will encourage the exchange of scientific and professional experiences and achievements. At the same time, we expect on the basis of current research approaches and challenges which the global, regional and local dimensions of causality intrigued the scientists Serbia and countries in the wider regional environment will be enhanced existing cooperation among all participants of the Congress.
