Ph.D. Zorica Prnjat

Zorica R. Prnjat (née Marković) graduated in 1991 at the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade, Study Program English Language and Literature. At the same faculty, she defended her Master thesis titled “Aspects of computer-mediated communication and implications for teaching a foreign language” in 2009, and a PhD dissertation titled “Conversion of Japanese geographical names in English and Serbian” in 2016.

She completed a specialist course “New didactic trends in English language teaching” organized by the British Council in Rome, Italy, in 1997.

She attended several seminars at the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade:

CEFR on assessment ”,“ Teaching Large Classes ”,“ Bologna and CEFR descriptors ”,“ European Language Portfolio ”and“ Content and Language Integrated Learning ”, February 2010.

 “Language learner autonomy and pedagogical approaches calculated to promote its development”, “The common reference levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​and their relevance to the development of curricula in the Philological Faculty” and “The European Language Portfolio as a tool to support reflective learning and learner self-assessment ”, March and October 2009.

She completed a course in academic writing “English Composition I” at Duke University in 2013.

Teaching:

From 1993 to 2014, she worked as a lecturer of academic English and English for special purposes. She worked at the following higher education institutions: Faculty of Management, Faculty of Trade and Banking, Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Faculty of Information Technology and Faculty of Foreign Languages at Alfa BK University.

From 2009 to 2011, she worked as a Business English lecturer at the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade at the Master program Languages, Business and International Trade.

Since 2010, she has been working at the Faculty of Geography, University of Belgrade, where she teaches academic English and English for special purposes in the following study programs: Geography, Environmental studies, Demography, Spatial Planning and Tourism.

Scientific-research and professional work:

From the beginning of her career, her interests have been in academic English and English for special purposes. The results of her work are presented in two university textbooks and papers published in proceedings, national and international research journals.

As an expert of the Institute for the Advancement of Education, she has done dozens of reviews of textbook in English for high schools and secondary vocational schools since 2012.

Since 2015, she has been engaged as a lecturer in professional development programs for primary and secondary school teachers titled “Danube Classroom on Water – Education for Sustainable Development” and “Education for Sustainable Development – Research and Project Interdisciplinary Teaching”.

She was a member of the editorial board of the scientific journals: The Journal of English for Specific and Academic Purposes and The Environment.
