International Academic Symposium “LOCAL SELF-GOVERNMENT IN PLANNING AND REGULATION OF SPACE AND SETTLEMENTS: TOWARDS EUROPEAN INTEGRATION”

University of Belgrade – Faculty of Geography and Serbian Spatial Planners Association are organizing the 6th International Academic Symposium “LOCAL SELF-GOVERNMENT IN PLANNING AND REGULATION OF SPACE AND SETTLEMENTS: TOWARDS EUROPEAN INTEGRATION”, in Vršac, from 2.-4. june 2016.
Serbia open chapters in European Union membership negotiations. Our country has begun the process of harmonization with essential standards and norms of the European Union member countries. This fact, along with the transition that has been going on for years in Serbia, which produced a mosaic of spatial and developmental problems, in a special way deepens an existing and imposes new challenges for the local community and motivated the preparation and organization of a special symposium on the topic “Local self-government in planning and regulation of space and settlements: towards European integration”.
It is obvious that space of local communities in Serbia, its design and development, in the upcoming period will be largely determined by the requirements arising from so-called takeover obligations of membership, but also significant opportunities offered by European integration.
Experiences and examples of good practice which will be presented during the symposium can be the basis for improvement and development of domestic science and practice, and significant contribution to governing structures at all levels, especially authority at the local level in solving the problems they face.
Positive experiences from previous five symposiums present a good precondition for the organization of yet another successful symposium. Therefore, having in mind the importance of the above mentioned topics, we invite you to take part in this symposium and contribute to its success.
