The aim of the course is to introduce students with theoretically based knowledge of urban tourism; to provide students appropriate knowledge in understanding the influence which city tourism has on contemporary development of urban systems.

The module should enable students to gain knowledge about importance and influence of urban tourism on transformation of urban areas; to acquire and apply knowledge of students in improvement of touristic development of cities.

Theoretical lectures

(1) Concepts, theory, methodology and scientific importance of urban tourism. (2) Historical overview of evolution of urban settlements and touristic movement – regional approach. (3) Urban tourism development cycles. (4) Typology of urban tourism. (5-6) Metropolis, capital cities, industrial cities, cultural cities, historical cities, regenerated port areas, resort cities etc. (7) Interconnections between urban areas and tourism.  (8) Touristic influence on functional zones in cities. (9) Urban areas and main touristic movements at the beginning of 21st century. Importance of urban tourism in Serbia and worldwide. (10) Tourist demands in urban areas. (11) Tourist supply in urban areas. (12) Cities as touristic attraction. Conferences, expo and fairs.  Culture, entertainment, sport and special events. (13) Secondary elements of touristic offer. (14) Characteristics of touristic services in urban areas. (15) Development strategies of urban tourism.

Practical lectures

Research tasks – determining the importance of urban settlements in touristic movements, spatial analysis of tourist demands and tourist offer in urban areas, determining the touristic influence on urban transformation. Application of selected methods (statistical analysis, cartographic methods, GIS etc.).
