Main subject goal is cartography method application in spatial, regional and urban planning as well as in the modelling of the complex spatial systems and their elements.

Expected learning outcome is to make students capable to use thematic cartography methods in preparation of different thematic map types for the purpose of spatial, regional and urban planning.

THEMATIC MAPS
Term and definitions, attributes, classification, cartography design.
SEMIO-SCALED THEMATIC MAPPING
CARTOGRAPHIC EXPRESSIVE MEANS
METHODS IN THEMATIC MAPPING
Colours, habitat,carto-diagrams,cartograms, points, signs, isolines, motion lines, vectors.
DIGITAL MAPS
Definitions, attributes, classification, visualization.
ATLASES
Definitions and characteristics, classification, categorization of maps in atlases.
DIGITAL ATLASES
Definitions, characteristics, classification, multimedia in digital atlases, GIS and digital atlases, 3D and 4D modelling,
SOFTWARE PACKAGES AND DIGITAL MAPPING

Practical lectures

It is necessary to create digital complex environmental atlas. Maps in the atlas are the following:

1. Local self-government map,
2. Number of inhabitants in the period year 1971-2011.,
3. Number of inhabitants year 2011.,
4. Comparison of inhabitants number, area and population density year 2011.
5. Population density year 2011.,
6. Agriculture area structure year 2012.
7. Settlements functional hierarchy year 2012.

All maps should be done in scale 1:100 000. Appropriate thematic mapping methods should be applied as well as appropriate cartographic expressive means. Beside the maps, atlas contains appropriate text, formulas, graphs, tables and sources and literature.
