Social and Geographical Basics of Tourism Development (NOT11O3)

Explanation of geographical dimensions of population, economy and settlements, as well as their interrelations with tourist activity (with clear spatial and economic features). Developing spatial thinking, geographical representations about the global space, as well as acquaintance with socio-geographical specificities relevant to tourism development.

Training students for proper interpretation of the socio-geographical features of space and their importance for tourism development. Students will be able to see and explain the impacts of tourism on the transformation of the socio-geographical environment.

Theoretical lectures

(1) Formation of the socio-economic macro-geography of the world. (2) Components and factors of geographical division of labor. (3) The place and role of tourism in the geographical division of labor. (4-6) Interregulations of the population (and its structures) and tourist activities. (7-9) Diversity of the influence of certain economic activities (and sectors of activity) on the development of tourism. (10-12) Settlements as tourist dispersions and destinations; the relationship between the interdependence of the tourist and other functions of the settlement. (13-15) Socio-geographic characteristics of regions and countries of the world.

Practical lectures

Population as a factor of tourism trends. Settlements as a tourist value. Economic geography and tourism. Presentation of the tourist potentials of the given spatial units.
