Aim of this course includes achieving knowledge of the perception of demographic development in the countries of the European Union; Introducing students with concept, characteristics and similarities and differences in the demographic transition of EU countries; To understand the levels and trends in the transition of components of demographic development; Students get basic knowledge in the field of creating policy recommendations towards the future population dynamics.

With mastering the course program students should be able to obtain knowledge about demographic phenomenon in the EU countries; to identify models of population dynamics in different historical periods; to understand contemporary demographic trends in EU; students get familiar with application of this knowledge in creating policy papers and documents; the students will also be able to overview the possible future trends in demographic development in EU countries.

Theoretical lectures

Basic characteristics of population dynamics in the EU countries; Main demographic processes in the EU countries – trends and patterns; Demographic transition in the EU countries; Migration patterns in the EU; Characteristics of the population structures; Urbanization process in the EU; Spatial distribution and population density in the EU; Relation between demographic features and population policies in the EU countries; Relation between demographic, on one, and economic, social and other aspects of development of EU on the other side; Future demographic trends;

Practice lectures

Creating demographic atlas of EU countries: depopulation, migration, population aging, deagrarization, urbanization; Territorial models of demographic patterns, ethno demographic models; Methodology of writing the seminar, analysis of relevant literature and statistical sources relevant for the students practice.
