The aim of the course is to introduce students with scope of migration flows around the world in different periods; to provide students knowledge of the fundamental demographic, economic, social and other factors which influence the migration patterns; to acquire knowledge for understanding the migration impct on demographic characteristics (fertility, mortality, population structures), as well as social and economic development.
After fulfilling all the course requirements, the student is capable to apply the knowledge about migration as basic factor and determinant of population dynamics and distribution; the students should be familiar with importance of migration patterns as a vital component of the development of human society.
Theoretical lectures
The major migration flows from prehistoric times till the Great Explorations; Migration since The Era of the Great Discoveries till contemporary period; Typology of internal and international migration in recent period; Determinants and consequences of internal and international migration on demographic, economic, social, political, cultural development; Contemporary migration on global, regional and national level – according to time span, types, causes and consequences; Permanent and temporary migration movement, circulation – intensity, causes and consequences; Migration and development in areas of origin and destination; Economic migration, refugees, IDPs, asylum seekers, irregular migration, human trafficking, brain drain etc; Contemporary migration on Balkan and in Serbia; Serbian diasporas; Migration and sustainable demographic development; Migration projections and models; Migration policies, methods and measures in Serbia and the world in past and present.

First human migration; Migration in prehistory; Migration in ancient times; Migration in Middle Ages; Migration in modern times; Migration before WWI, Migration between two World Wars; Migration after WWII; Contemporary migration, Refugees; Irregular migration; Smuggling and human trafficking.
