Study of the methodology of demographic indicators modeling using cartographic methods and expressive means of thematic cartography. Particular importance is attached to the theoretical and methodological elaboration and practical application of semi-dimensional mapping in the production of demographic maps and atlases.
Acquisition and application of theoretical and methodological knowledge and application of that knowledge of demographic phenomena and processes in the atlas. Gaining knowledge of relevance to demographic studies provided by digital cartography based on the use of geo-spatial databases for obtaining quantitative and qualitative information. The combination of 2D and 3D mapping of demographic research provides a wider and more accessible use of geo-spatial data.
Theoretical lectures
Definition of thematic cartography, concept and division of thematic maps. Elements of map quality. Map content structure. Digital cartographic modeling of demographic indicators. Cartographic expressive means. Functional dimensions of the meaning of the cartographic language. Signs and meanings. Functional color in cartographic modeling. Thematic cartography methods. Semi-proportional thematic mapping. Types of semi-transparent mapping. Formation of legend of thematic maps. Cartographic design. Analog and digital atlas, the type and importance of making.
Practical lectures
Compilation of the contents of maps by the thematic cartography methods. Semigraphy of the subject of cartographic study. Types of semi-transparent mapping. Digital processing and creation of demographic maps and atlases based on GIS Administrative Card. Map of population change in relation to base year, method of cardiograms, differentiated form of semi-proportional. Map of the change in the number of households, the method of cardiograms, the differentiated type of semi-proportions. Map of the population, method of points. Population density map, mapping method. Map of population comparison, area and density of population, method of cardiograms, comparative type of semi-proportions. Map of selected numerical indicators - the number of people employed in agriculture and industry, unified form of semi-proportional. Map of the population of urban settlements, method of signs, differentiated form of semi-proportional. Map of the population according to literacy and gender, method of cardiograms, differentiated form of semi-proportions and method of cartograms. Creation of charts and diagrams (movement of the number of museums, old pyramids, population according to the school system.
