Based on the principles and methods of regionalization will be defined planning regions of Serbia in accordance with specified planning objectives.
The outcome of the course will be to train the student - future spatial planner to apply spatial analysis based on relevant indicators (to determine regularities in the formation of regional structures), to evaluate space from a socially useful point of view (including future development) and to point to the alternative directions of spatial development as ground for purposeful development policy and spatial planning of regional structures and systems of Serbia.
Theoretical lectures
Starting points for defining planning regions of Serbia; Differences and similarities between planning and geographical regions in Serbia; Regionalization of use and protection of agricultural land and regionalization of agricultural production; Regionalization of use and protection of forests, forest land and hunting areas; Regionalization of use and protection of water and water infrastructure; Regional systems for water supply and distribution of population, settlements and economic activities; Regionalization of mineral resources use; Planning regions (resources, potential territorial coverage); Industry as an element and factor of planning regionalization of Serbia; Industrial regions, zones, belts (territorial coverage, functional and economic importance etc.); Tourism as factor of planning regionalization of Serbia; Tourist regions - organization and hierarchy; Settlements as factors and elements of planning regionalization of Serbia; Spatial model of the settlements network of Serbia's (territorial distribution, demographic size, functions, development of public services); Rural settlements as elements and factors of regional differentiation of Serbia and its spatial concretization (rural areas, areas of mountain, lowland, suburban villages etc.); Functional areas of Serbia - principles of differentiation and regional gathering; Territorial coverage and demographic size of functional areas, their importance in functional organization (differentiation and integration) of Serbia and hierarchy; Urban centers - growth and development poles of Serbia; Development axes - factors of regional integration of Serbia; Metropolitan regions in Serbia; Problem regions in Serbia (economically depressed regions, depopulation regions etc.).
Practical lectures
Exercises have an applicative character. On concrete examples of planning regions of Serbia (with different territorial coverage and planning objectives), will be identified physical-geographical, settlement, demographic, economic, social and other components, which in conjunction with other factors homogenize and differentiate this regions. The aim of the exercises is to identify the regional organization of territorial units that are being treated in spatial plans.
