The aim of the course is to familiarize with the natural and social factors of the geographical environment that affect the health of the population.Consequently, it meansresearching the geographical distribution of diseases (geography of diseases or nozgeography), as well as the study of the factors of the natural and social environment that affect human health (geography of health or sanogeography).
Ability to apply practical knowledge in the field of medical geography.
Theoretical lectures
Medical geography - concept, division and subject of study. Geophysical factors and population health. Geological, pedological and geomorphological factors and population health. Geochemical factors and population health. Hydrological factors and health. The influence of climate and weather on human health. Biogeographical and biological (biotic) factors. Population and settlements as a sociogeographical and medical-geographical category. Economic activities and health of the population. Socio-economic factors and population health. Epidemics and pandemics. Geography of non-communicable diseases. Geography of health (sanogeography). Health conditions of the population of Serbia and the world. Health system and health care in the Republic of Serbia.
Practical lectures
Practical presentation of the positive and negative effects of certain geographical factors on the health of the population – examples in Serbia and the world; Quantification of diseases – calculating morbidity and mortality; Cartographic diagnosis of the diseases.
