This course is designed to help students understand the key theories, empirical patterns, and contemporary debates in the study of human resources in tourism.

After completing the course, the student is expected to be able to explain the impact of education for economy, particularly for sustainable development of tourism. Gaining practical knowledge on the basis of which students will be able to get involved in the tourism enterprise management, especially in the human resources sector.

Theoretical lectures

Introduction to Human Resource Theory. Labour force, human capital and human resources. Historical context in the development of human resources. Quantitative and qualitative indicators of human resources. Employment rates in tourism. Educational composition of employees in tourism. Global and regional patterns of education. Skills of employees in tourism. Differentiation of labour force in tourism according to sex, age, ethnic and migration characteristics. Supply-demand equilibrium in labour market. The impact of education on the productivity of employees in tourism. Knowledge and skills for the new tourism economy. Human resource management in tourism. Job analysis. Human resource developing and planning. Strategical management of human resources in tourism.
