- Semester: IV
- Number of classes: 2+1
Acquisition of basic knowledge in the field of GIS and their practical application in the field of spatial planning.
The course is designed to provide students with an understanding of key GIS concepts, tools and theories used in modern spatial planning. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to understand and know how to use different data sources, perform geospatial data analysis, and effectively present the results in the GIS environment.
Theoretical lectures
1. Introductory considerations of the GIS application in spatial planning; 2.-3. Sources of geospatial data (remote sensing, digitizing, scanning, photogrammetry, global positioning systems, geodetic surveys); 4. Spatial Data Infrastructure; 5. Quality control of geospatial data; 6. Importance of standardization for GIS; 7. Partial exam; 8. Analysis of geospatial data (manipulation and transformations, queries, analytic functions); 9. Arithmetical and logical operations; 10. Application of statistics and modeling; 11. Cartographic presentations; 12. Visualization; 13. Cartographic animations; 14. GIS on the Internet; 15. Partial exam.
Practical lectures
1. Getting to know the GIS software package in use; 2. Entering new objects and adding their attributes; 3. Changing the size and shape of objects on the map; 4. Splitting of lines and polygons, merging lines and polygons, and automatic updating of attributes; 5. Deleting, moving and copping objects on the map; 6. Labeling objects on the map; 7. Attribute queries; 8. Geometry analysis (calculation of surface, length ...); 9. Spatial queries; 10. Geocoding coordinates; 11. Buffering; 12. Analysis of spatial relationships and spatial merging and intersection; 13. Defining printing paper, layout (determining the scale of the map, defining the legend, north arrow, adding text and graphics ...), printing and export. 14.-15. Practical exam.
