Students will get acquainted with the complex issues of environmental planning, protection and enhancement.

Acquiring basic knowledge on the environment, its effects on man and human society; Mastering an environmental research and evaluation method; Identifying negative effects of human actions on the environment. Introduction to an efficient system of environmental management.

Theoretical lectures

I – A theoretical framework for environmental protection; The study of Man-Environment relationship; The importance of Environmental planning;
II – The environmental system, its components and factors; Methodology and research techniques and environmental evaluation;
III – The quality of the environment – types of degradation and progradation; Sources of environmental pollution;
IV – Endangering the environment and mechanisms of  harmful actions; The effects of environmental pollution;
V – Principles of environmental enhancement and protection; Prevention and Remediation measures; Setting priorities for environmental planning;
VI – Institutional and organizational aspects of environmental protection; Public participation in environmental decision-making; Environmental protection legislation;
VII – Environmental standards (maximum allowable quantities, emission limit value, threshold limit value, permissible level etc.); Environmental issues in various planning documents (Detailed regulation plan,General regulation plan, General plan, Spatial plan of a unit of local government, Regional spatial plan, Spatial plan for special purpose areas, Spatial plan of the Republic of Serbia);
VIII –The strategic and environmental protection measures in plans;
IX – Environmental monitoring;
X – Pollutant inventory;
XI – Environmental information system. ISO standards;
XII – The Environmental management measures and tools;
XIII – International agreements, contracts and other documents relevant for environmental protection;
XIV – Environmental protection and enhancement projects;
XV – European experiences, principles and tendencies in environmental protection.

Practical lectures

Further elaboration on the contents presented in the lectures is planned for the practical lessons between the 1^st and 15^th week. Practical work is planned for each environmental factor (air, water, land) and it will involve defining the sources and effects of pollution, i.e. undertaking protection measures. Students will work on the specific practical examples from Serbia. Preparation of environmental thematic maps is planned.
