Introduction to the main characteristics and determinants of demographic development of Serbia and neighboring countries in the post-war period. Special attention is paid to the contemporary problems of demographic development (depopulation, demographic aging, territorial distribution of the population, problems of the city and the villages), the main demographic processes that led to differential demographic development on the territory of Serbia and the main factors of such movements. Changes in the socio-economic structures of the population in Serbia are considered, the process of urbanization and deagrarization. The position of Serbia on the demographic map of Europe, and the main trends and basic causes of demographic trends, as well as the differences between the countries of Southeastern Europe (Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia).

Understanding the determinants of demographic development and acquiring knowledge about demographic problems of Serbia in order to apply them in different areas of social practice.

Theoretical lectures

The main structural characteristics and problems of the demographic development of Serbia: The process of demographic aging - causes and consequences, regional aspects; Differentiation and polarization of demographic development; Depopulation and suprapopulation; Population distribution and population density changes; Urbanization - urban population growth; Industrialization and deagrarization;
Changes in the structure of population according to the economic activity Changes in the activity structure; Agricultural population; About some links between economic development and demographic trends in Serbia.
Serbia on demographic map of Europe; Population and Demographic Perspectives of Southeast European Countries; Demographic Development: Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia.

Practical lectures

Study research work and other forms of teaching by applying various techniques and methods of analysis, using the census data. Different demographic variables and their influence on the demographic development of Serbia are examined.
