Study of the methodology of modeling the transposition of spatial-temporal content from spherical positions into a spatio-nomogramic scale model - on a spherical surface (globe) and on a mathematical plane (plan, map) in order to investigate and find out the state and the changes  in the themes of space: objects, phenomena and processes.

Training students to master teaching materials from cartography in order to apply the acquired knowledge in demographic research. Adoption of theoretical and methodological and applied cartographic knowledge for demographic research. Special attention is paid to the possibilities that digital mapping, based on GIS, provides for demographic studies.

Theoretical lectures

Definition, object and method of cartography. The importance of maps and cartography and its relationship with demography. Concept, characteristics and classification of maps. Elements of map content. Cartographic projections and their division. Coordinate systems and coordinate networks. The  map scale and scale bar. Cartographic generalization. Cartographic and topographic signs. Distribution of maps to the sheets and their marking. Map frame. Presentation of geographic map content. Presentation of the settlements on the maps. The role and character of the name on the maps. Digital cartography. Visual analytics supported by digital technology.

Practical lectures

Cartographic signs. Topographic signs. Coordinate systems. Coordinate networks. Geographic coordinate system. Rectangular coordinate system. Presentation of hydrography elements on maps. Presenting landform on maps. Presentation of vegetation and agricultural crops on maps. Presentation of the settlements on the maps. Presentation of infrastructure objects and communication on maps. Presentation of borderlines on maps. Map titles. Division of maps to the sheets. GPS application.
