The aim of the course is to present the key features, role and domain, as well as past, the latest and some prospective approaches to spatial planning. In addition, the role of geographical knowledge in spatial planning process will be presented;

Acquiring the basic knowledge about the modern concept, priorities and problems that spatial planning is facing in global and national context today and in the near future. An understanding of the role of the spatial planning as a discipline of applied geography and an instrument of governance systems.

Spatial planning and its definitions; Scientific status of spatial planning; The scale and content of spatial planning; Spatial planning instruments; The rational, advocacy and (neo)Marxist model; The model of equity planning and the model of social learning and communicative action; The radical and (neo)liberal model of planning; Spatial planning before the written word; Official policies of spatial planning; Planning documents in Serbia with examples; Towards a new role of spatial planning; Course summary as a preparation for the exam.
