The aim of the course is to present the key features, role and domain, as well as past, the latest and some prospective approaches to spatial planning and to give an introduction to spatial planning in view of environmental planning.

Acquiring the basic knowledge about the key determinants of spatial planning and about its models, challenges and opportunities, globally and nationally. An understanding of the role of spatial planning as an instrument of environmental protection;

Theoretical lectures

Spatial planning and its definitions; Scientific status of spatial planning; The scale and content of spatial planning; Spatial planning instruments; The rational, advocacy and (neo)Marxist model; The model of equity planning and the model of social learning and communicative action; The radical and (neo)liberal model of planning; Spatial planning before the written word; Official policies of spatial planning; Planning documents in Serbia with examples; Towards a new role of spatial planning; Course summary as a preparation for the exam.

Practical lectures

Introductory class (basic information about the subject, distribution of exam questions, literature, presentation of the basic exercise task); Introducing the aims and way of making essays, sharing topics; Creating croquis and literature organization; Creating an initial plan; Draft Essay (with reference) - 3 teaching units; Creating the final version of the essay - 4 teaching units; Creating a presentation; Presentation of the essay - 4 teaching units.
