Basic Principles of Information Technology (NOPP21I1)

This subject represents an introduction to the use of information technology. It is designed to provide students with understanding of key concepts, tools and theories used in modern business.
Potential benefits provided by information technology with practical study of the basic properties of using information technology and user software. Through practical work on the computer, students will master the techniques of entering and processing texts, inputting and processing numerical and graphic data. They will be able to independently produce texts (seminar work) using styles, title pages, generated numbering and content, as well as all attachments in it (photos, graphic, tabular displays). They will also learn how to adapt their work to a PowerPoint presentation.

- Theoretical basics: What is data? What is information? How do we measure information?
- What is knowledge? How did knowledge increase during human history? What is wisdom?
- What is an information system? What does a well-organized information system look like? What is a computer-based information system?
- What is technique and what technology? What is the significance of disruptive technologies? What is information technology? What is Informatics? What is a numeric system? What is code? Which measurement units are used in computer science?
- Computer anatomy: What are the basic components of modern information technology? What is a computer? What is hardware for? Which events are significant in the development of computers? What does the von Neumann computer model look like?
- What are the basic components of the computer? What are the basic subsystems of a hardware system? What does the conceptual diagram of a microcomputer look like?
- What does the processor do? What are CPU performance dependencies? What is Moore's law? What requirements are placed on the memory? What units are for measuring memory capacity? What is working memory? What are interfaces?
- What is meant by the term peripherals? How do we divide input devices? How can the output devices be divided? What role does external memory have? What technologies are used to produce secondary technology? How have the trends in the development of computer systems changed throughout the generations?
- Possibilities of Information Technology Application: What are the benefits of using a computer? What are the possible areas of computer application? What are built-in systems?
- What is CIM? How is the CIM concept applied in all stages of the product life cycle? What is a robot? What are robots used and how can we categorize them? What is virtual reality?
- What is intelligence? What is artificial intelligence? What are the advantages and limitations of artificial intelligence in relation to the natural? What are the possibilities of practical application of artificial intelligence? What are expert systems? What are the advantages and limitations of expert systems?
- What is this estimated calculation? What are neural networks? What are the differences between neural networks and classical computers? What are the areas of application of neural networks? What are the similarities and differences between expert systems and neural networks?
- Significant historical moments in the development of information technology: What economic eras are important in recent history? How did the history of the computer unfold? How many generations of computers have appeared to date? Which computers can rightly proclaim the notion that they were the first? How did computer evolution and revolution intertwine?
- How many generations of programming languages are there? Who were the first developers? What are the significant inventions in the history of telecommunications?
- What events in the history of communication were the basis for the development of today's Internet? How did the history of the WWW develop? What are the major events in the history of artificial intelligence development? What laws are important for studying information technology?
Practical lectures
- Basics of the operating system: Logging on to a computer that is in the network. Getting to know Windows desktop. Using the Start menu. Using a range of jobs.Creating shortcuts, deploying elements on the desktop and cleaning your desktop. Elements of the window. Searching for computers and working with folders and files (creating, deleting, renaming, copying, moving ...).
- MS Word: Creating a Document in Word: Adjusting Text Margin Pages, Creating a Title Page, Formatting Text, Paragraf, Tabs, Separating Sections in Text, Inserting Images and Objects.
- Spelling and grammar checking, adding footers and page headers, numbering pages, inserting dates and times, working with tables in Word.
- Working with styles: Normal style, title styles, creating a new style; Creating an index; Creating notes; Comparison and merging of documents.
- Preparation for practical work.
- Presentation and grading of practical work.
- MS Excel: Getting acquainted with programs for entering and processing numerical data. Creating a worksheet in Excel: Entering labels and values in a worksheet, Editing and deleting cell contents, Inserting and removing cells, Working with sheets, Inserting and deleting columns and rows, adjusting column widths and row heights.
- Format worksheet: Create and edit formulas, assign names to cells and bands, convert text to columns, create and format tables, and calculate it in the table, sort data in tables.
- Creating a graphical data view. Worksheet design: Formatting numerical values, preparing and creating cell styles, conditional formatting, page setup, adding headers and footer sites, page break, setting and defining the print area.

- Presentation and grading of practical work.
- Creating a presentation in MS PowerPoint, presenting a presentation using PowerPoint.
- Simulation of seminar work with textual, graphic and tabular data, linking with tables and charts from Excel (text break and preparation for printing).
- Creating a PowerPoint pre-publication based on a pre-prepared text.
Presentations: Students, grouped by group, will present PowerPoint presentations with their work that they did during their practical lessons.
