 Introduction to the subject of demography, theory, techniques and methods of demographic analysis, and its significance for the environment. Recognizing demographic processes in Serbia. Examining the role and significance of the population for a spatial-functional organization and its systemic connection with other elements of the geospatial structure.

Mastering demographic analysis, understanding the causes and consequences of demographic processes, interpreting the causal and consequential interactions between the demographic system and the geographical environment.

Theoretical lectures

The importance of demographic research for the environment. Sources of population data. Population statistics. Dynamics of the total population. Components of population growth. Natality, mortality and natural increase. Differential fertility and mortality. Migration: Measures, Causes and Consequences. Types of population growth. Disposition of the population. Structural characteristics of the population. Age structure of the population. Functional contingents. Socioeconomic Structure of the Population. Ethnic and confessional composition of the population. Families and households as a demographic category. Settlements as a demographic category. Population projections. Basic demographic processes in Serbia, regional differences and problems of demographic development of Serbia.

Practical lectures

Census and vital statistics. Organization of the census in Serbia. Possibility of comparative analysis and analysis of trends depending on administrative-territorial divisions. Calculation of population growth rates, birth rates and fertility rates, mortality rates. Expected duration of life. Measures of the human reproduction. Fertility and mortality curve. Vital-statistic method of calculating the migration bilance. Age-sex pyramids and types of age composition. Rates of economic activity and utilization of work contingent. Ethnic mosaic in Serbia. The average size of households and household income sources. Mathematical and analytical methods of projection. Mapping and graphic representation of the investigated elements.
